The atelier at work

The atelier

Drawn in Paris. Made to order in the Indus Valley.

Every TRUE TRIBE piece is drawn in Paris and made in our atelier in the Indus Valley, where a team of eighteen works on one small floor. Almost every piece is made there from start to finish. One craftsman assembles each garment, and every piece is traced to the people who made it.

The pattern

Every pattern is drawn and graded in Paris by Pierre Letz and Daniel Martin, couturiers who have run their own made-to-measure atelier, LetzMartin, since 1989. Pierre trained at the school of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, at Christian Lacroix and at Torrente; Daniel at Esmod.

Samples are made in the atelier, then fitted and corrected in Paris until the pattern is approved.

Made to order

Nothing is made in advance. Every piece on this site is produced only once it is ordered. Cloth is inspected and measured when it reaches the atelier, then chalked and cut by hand.

One craftsman

Eight craftsmen work the floor, each trained to make the whole garment. One craftsman assembles each piece, from the first seam to the last. Cutting, embroidery and finishing are recorded against the names of the people who do them.

The finish

Drawcords, eyelets, linings and trims are set by hand, on the same floor as the sewing.

Inspection

Each piece is measured against its approved sample and inspected by the atelier's own controllers before it is folded into its pouch.

The cloth

Swim shells are woven in Italy, France and China; linings in France, Italy and Portugal. Linens are woven in China, most cottons in Pakistan. Every product page shows where its cloth was woven and dyed.

The people

The atelier occupies a villa in the Indus Valley, with a garden, a kitchen and a shared lounge. Its craftsmen have made TRUE TRIBE pieces since 2018.
